Special Projects and Events
David has provided lighting design for numerous and varied special projects
and events such last year’s Ottawa Humane Society’s "Fur Ball", The Canadian Screen Training Centre's 2005 Summer Kickoff
Party, the Advertising and Design Accociation of Ottawa's Speaker Series
Seminar and the 2003 Winterlude Festival's opening ceremony and concert.
He has provided his design talents to the Canada Council for the Arts - Art
Bank Gala celebrating the opening of their new gallery and storage
facilities. This event saw him provide both gallery style and atmospheric
lighting throughout the entire 36,000 square foot space. Not surprisingly
the night was hailed as "the most astonishing party of the season" (Ottawa
Citizen - print). He was asked back the next year to design their 30th
Anniversary party.
He was both lighting designer and director for Corel Corporations launch of
Wordperfect 7, a live and live to tape event and has designed for the Canada
Cup Bodybuilding Championship. He has also worked with the Prime Minister's
Office providing site specific consultation for the 1987 visit to Ottawa by
President Ronald Reagan and the First Lady.
Outdoor festivals have used his expertise such as the city of Ottawa's
Winterlude theme park event "Cheers to the U.K." and two seasons of the city
of Ottawa's Festival of Spring at Major's Hill Park. As well he lit two
seasons of the Canadian Museum of Civilization's Summer Plaza exhibit/events
and the Canadian Children's Museum's famous outdoor Chinese Dragon.
He is as well in demand from high end private clientele for grounds and
atmospheric lighting design for summer parties and events.
Be it designing in theatre, warehouse or hotel settings or concerts and
parties under the stars, he excels at providing a visually dynamic
atmosphere perfectly tailored to every project.
Client Reviews:
"David Magladry's fabulous lighting was one of the reasons the opening of the new Art Bank location was rated as 'one of the best and most astonishing parties of the season' as quoted by Margo Roston (The Ottawa Citizen). David understood the Art Bank's needs and not only created dramatic lighting but also focused on all of the artwork within that context".
- Victoria Henry - Director, Art Bank - Canada Council for the Arts
"All my staff working on this project said the same thing ''Very nice to work
with, very calm and liked what he did with the show. I am looking forward to
working with you again!"
Jean-Marc Robillard, Manager of Production Services - National Programming
Branch, National Capital Commission.
